Abstract:
Refinement design requirements of modern aircraft configuration require airfoil parametric methods have precise geometry control ability. Geometry control ability evaluation of classical airfoil parametric methods can provide reference for designers to choose suitable airfoil parametric method for engineering problems. Five representative classical airfoils are used as test airfoils in this paper and four classical airfoil parametric methods’ geometry control ability is evaluated based on the standard wind tunnel model tolerance requirement. The four airfoil parametric meth-ods are Hicks-Henne, B-spline, PARSEC and CST respectively. The evaluation results indicate that airfoil geometry control abilities are different between the parametric methods and each method has its own applicable scope. Every parametric method’s applicability is analyzed based on the evaluation results and its inherent characters.
