With the purpose of guiding domestic ETOPS type design, civil aircraft ETOPS type design was studied in this paper. The ETOPS definition and development process was briefly introduced. Airworthiness requirement and approve method for civil aircraft ETOPS type design was sorted. Based on researches on airworthiness material, an ETOPS type design idea was proposed. In engineering practice, it was turned out that the design flow proposed in this paper can guide the ETOPS type design for domestic civil aircraft.
