    Abstract:

Hybridizing other fiber is an effective way to improve carbon fiber composite laminates toughness. To investigate the impact damaged behavior of hybrid composite laminates under bullet impact, a series of glass-carbon/epoxy and Kevlar-carbon/epoxy inter laminated hybrid plates are tested using steel projectile propelled by gas gun, and the damage zones and failure modes are inspected. Through the analysis of the experimental results, some understandings of the regularity are obtained as follows: compared with the common composite laminates, hybrid composite laminates could improve the impact damage resistance observably. Furthermore, the characteristic of hybrid layers, the matching performance of different materials, and mechanical properties of impacted side material all have obvious influence on impact damage of hybrid composite laminates.
